Lucas County, Ohio is located in the northwest corner of the state and is part of the Toledo Metropolitan Area. It was established in 1835 and named after Robert Lucas, the 12th Governor of Ohio. The area was originally inhabited by the Ottawa and Chippewa Native American tribes. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the early 1800s, and the county was officially established in 1835. The county was an important part of the Underground Railroad, with many of the county's residents helping to provide safe passage for escaped slaves. In the late 1800s, the county experienced a period of rapid growth and development. The city of Toledo was incorporated in 1837, and the county seat was moved to Toledo in 1845. The county also saw the development of several railroads, which helped to spur economic growth. The county was also home to several important industries, including glass manufacturing, steel production, and automotive manufacturing. The city of Toledo was home to the Willys-Overland Motor Company, which produced the iconic Jeep. The county also experienced a period of population growth in the early 20th century, with the population increasing from just over 100,000 in 1900 to over 300,000 by 1950. Today, Lucas County is home to over 440,000 people and is an important part of the Toledo Metropolitan Area. The county is home to several major employers, including ProMedica, Owens Corning, and the University of Toledo. The county is also home to several parks and recreational areas, including the Maumee River, the Toledo Zoo, and the Toledo Museum of Art.

The Automobile and Watercraft Division processes all Lucas County Auto Title related transactions, and is an authorized U. S. Passport Acceptance Agent for the U.S. Department of State.

The Domestic Relations Court was established in 1924 by an act of Ohio Legislature. Originally, this court had jurisdiction in all juvenile matters, as well as divorces and post-divorce motions for families residing in Lucas County, thus the term Family Court.
