About Union County

Union County, Ohio is located in the central part of the state and is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. It was established in 1820 and named after the union of the United States. The county was originally part of Franklin County, but was split off in 1820. The first settlers in the area were mostly German immigrants who arrived in the early 1800s. They were attracted to the area by the fertile soil and abundant natural resources. The county was largely agricultural, with the main crops being wheat, corn, and oats. The county seat is Marysville, which was founded in 1819. Marysville was the first county seat and is the largest city in the county. The city was named after Mary, the wife of the first settler in the area. The county has a rich history of industry and manufacturing. In the late 1800s, the county was home to several factories, including a paper mill, a flour mill, and a sawmill. The county also had several coal mines, which provided jobs for many of the residents. The county has also been home to several notable people, including former President William McKinley, who was born in Niles, Ohio, and former Ohio Governor James Rhodes, who was born in Marysville. Today, Union County is a vibrant and diverse community. It is home to several large employers, including Honda of America, which has its headquarters in Marysville. The county also has a strong agricultural base, with many farms and orchards. The county is also home to several parks and recreational areas, including the Marysville State Fish Hatchery and the Union County Historical Society.
